Roosevelt schools have run up a budget deficit exceeding $5 million, state officials acknowledge, even though the district is the only one in the state in which spending is legally controlled by Albany.

Alerted to the budget gap just before the weekend, state officials told Newsday yesterday that they had immediately ordered Roosevelt administrators to come up with a recovery plan. Meanwhile, state officials say they are checking for ways the district can draw on extra state and federal financial aid in order to avoid cuts in student services.
 Roosevelt schools in the red

This article hit home for me because it’s about where I’m from. Roosevelt schools are in danger of budget cuts because of there ridiculous spending. They rode up a bill of 5 million dollars. I find this unfair to the rest of Long Island. Many schools on Long Island have experienced budget cuts and Roosevelt has always been able to spend. Schools like Brentwood and Smithtown have had sports and art cuts. I don’t appreciate this because they think that those are unimportant to kids. For me if it wasen’t for sports and art i don’t know where i’d be. Soccer got me money to come to school where I’m studying to be a Graphic Designer. I’m glad Roosevelt hasen’t had to go through this but it’s infair that they had to exceed by this much before being rep-remanded.
