Lohan says she’s attending AA meetings

December 13, 2006

This is another case of a child-star getting to big. Lindsay Lohan was a Long Island resident and I knew her. Before she got huge she was a normal girl. Now the price of stardom has set in. She’s 20 years old and she’s already attending AA meetings. She says that it wasen’t the clubs and the parties, she says she was drinking at home with her friends. Now why aren’t her friends getting any media attention? Because they’ve never been in a movie. Everyone just wants to hear about the next star that screwed up so they can feel better about themselves. Im not sure why anyone besides her family and friends should care weather or not she’s in AA. That’s not the whole worlds buissness and Lindsays hould have kept it that way. Now she’s pulling off this whole sympathetic reformed child star act. She states how she works for a living and she doesn’t need alcohol. I think the whole article is a load of crap and is just the same story about a different star.

Flatulence Forces Plane to Land

Several members on a flight Dallas bound reported smelling a sulfur like odor. The plane was diverted to Nashville for an emergency landing after the claims proved to be true. The claims ended up being quite humorous rather then alarming when the cause was specified. An unnamed women admitted to FBI agents that she had struck a match to conceal certain body odors. She says she has an unspecified medical condition. I think it’s quite humorous how blown out of proportion this situation was. It used to be okay for people to smoke on a plane now planes are being diverted for emergency landings because someone farted and lit a match. I feel bad for this women but I think she should of brought it to the attention of the crew before the entire plane had to be diverted.

Shinnecock tribe faces hurdles to get land

This article discusses the dispute of the Shinnecock tribe about getting land that was once their’s back. The Shinnecock are being denied their land because they did not sue often enough, failing to meet a pair of 2005 legal precedents that say Indians can only be awarded parcels that have been in consistent historical dispute. The Shinnecock are an Indian tribe not government officials. How would they knwo of this law if no one told them. All they know is that their land was once taken from them and now they want it back. The concern is that the tribe wants to build casinos ont he land and make profit. Why does this matter? Their land was stolen form them. If they got it back they should be able to do whatever they want to it. I think this situation has gone to far. The Shinnecock tribe should at least be given some of their land back. It’s their history adn heritage in that soil.

Wendy’s in sexual harrassment suit

A girl, 17 at the time, was sexually abused by her manager during work hours and nothing is being done about it. The girl is suing Wendy’s, but it seems to be going no where. After a short consensual relationship with the manager the girl broke it off. After that the manager continuously abused the girl in sexual ways and made her perform oral sex in one of the Wendy’s restrooms. The abused girl says that he brushed against her constantly and would not leave her alone. The man was fired but not for sexual abuse. He was fired for having a realtionship with a co-worker. That is ridiculous. If the girl hadn’t quit she probably would have been fired for the same thing. The man is not getting away with sexual abuse and all that’s happening is he’s being fored from Wendy’s. I hope they find this man guilty and he gets what he deserves.

New York encouraging ACT to challenge SAT

December 13, 2006

New York is now pushing for the wider use of the ACT exam. They feel it is more proficient and a better exam overall. Because of recent errors in scoring the SATs and the failure to notify students righ away the SATs and the College Board are be slandered. The ACT exam is used mostly in the middle states while the SAT has been used more on the coasts. There has been a dip in SAT user while the ACT exam had gained users.

Either way I think it’s still going to be hard on students. When I was in high school you had to take the SATs to get into college. The ACT exam was just helpful if you wanted to take it. Now their confusing students even more. Now they don’t know weather colleges are going to prefer SATs or ACTs. This whole dispute hurts high schools students the most. These high school students are already nervous on what college their going to get into, and now they don’t even know which test they should take to get into college. I think this whole dispute is going to make more problems then it solves.

Hevesi agrees to pay $206,292 in restitution

State Comptroller Alan Hevesi spent an estimated $206,292 of taxpayers money to chauffer his wife around along with other things. Hevesi says that the man assigned to his wife along with the other employees were helping to protect his wife beacuse of threats in 2003 against him. I want to know how no one noticed that he was spending all this money and none was coming back. He used men he called security to protect his wife who had no backround in their jobs. I am glad now that Hevesi is paying back what he owes and has hopefully seent he faults in his ways. I think Albany needs to be alittle bit more careful where their money goes. A 3 year incident could have been easily avoided if Hevesi was questioned on where the money was going.

Islip air traffic control tower in trouble

4 years is how long it will take to build a new suitable tower for Macarthur airport. That’s not soon enough though. Air traffic controllers have to deal with leaky roofs, blistering heat and unsanitary situations. The paint on the tower is peeling and it’s also to short by FAA requirements. The fact of it being to short causes blind spots. Recently added fixtures near the airport have made 2 runways dissappear to traffic controllers. It does not pose a threat to passengers because they would not be on board at these points but it is still very unsafe working conditions. What I don’t understand is why 4 years? Why not fix the air conditioning and heat so they work right now. They could install cameras and monitors so there are no longer blind spots to the control tower. Their willing to spend 16 million dollars on a new tower why not fix the porblems the old one has in the mean time.

Bill may save millions by ignoring false-alarms

The proposal in this article is for Nassau police officers to stop responding to unregistered alarms. The purpose is to save money on all the times there has been false alarms. They say it will save the people money also because if the police never show up they won’t et fined for unregistered alarms or for the false alarm. 99.4% of the alarms last year were false alarms and wasted hours of on duty Nassau police officers. On the other hand this is their job isn’t it? How can they not respond to unregistered alarms. Does that automatically make it a false alarm. They could be putting peoples lives in more danger over a registration number. Many people don’t even know that tou have to register your alarm. One of Nassau’s own police officers admitted in the article that he didn’t know about the registraion until recently. So because of all these false alarms Nassau is just going to hope that the unregistered ones are all fake now. I think this is wrong and it is putting people in uneccessary danger.

Roslyn substitute teacher charged with sexually assaulting student

Things like this disgust me. A grown man taking advantage of a 15 year old girl by using his authoratative power to take control. Rodriguez was a teacher at the girl’s school. Police do not know how long the 2 had known eachother. Rodriguez too the girl to a freinds apartment and the rest happened from there. He is now being chrged with thrid degree rape, disseminating indecent material to a minor and endangering the welfare of a child.

I am not saying that what this man did can be justified but how did a 15 year old girl get to this apartment in the first place. Where were her parents and did they not realize she was gone. I think the situation made it all to easy for Rodriguez to rape this girl. I think he should be sentenced to more time then the maximum 4 years and should stay in jail for a long time.

E.coli confusion continues

The FDA has now stated that they are not sure what caused the E.Coli virus at several Taco Bell locations. They may never find out either. All the food that was possibly infected is now long gone and extensive tests ont he food now have proved inconclusive. The FDA also stated that they confused 2 food products because of labeling errors. If this is hoe the FDA is dealing with the situation then im not sure many people are going to want to eat at Taco Bell anymore. Taco Bell has changed their provider for all their food but never the less, if the FDA can’t prove what made everyone sick it makes Taco Bell look bad for good. I don’t think that the FDA is going to find anything soon. They have still not even found what contaminated the spinach from awhile ago. They have also realeased a statement saying that the contamination could have came form anywhere from the water it was cleaned with to the plastic bag it was transported in. If this is the case I think the FDA needs to speed up their process before more people get sick.
